Beat Garden: A Unique Intersection of Soul, Tech, and Youth Education

On a mission to bridge technology and soul music, Stax Music Academy has collaborated with James Fauntleroy, 4x GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter, producer, and artist known for his works with Drake, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake, for the Beat Garden series. This innovative music project aims to sow the seeds of computer literacy in today’s youth through the power of music.

The Beat Garden Experience

Held at Stax Music Academy in Memphis, Beat Garden is an experiential oasis brimming with state-of-the-art technology. The program encourages students to learn music production basics and create beats using various Roland instruments. The Beat Garden initiative is the product of a triple partnership between the Academy, 1500 Sound Academy, and Roland.

Inspired by Youth, Created for Youth

Stemming from his humble beginnings in South Los Angeles where exposure to such groundbreaking technology was scarce, Fauntleroy looks back to a life-changing technology assembly he attended at school, influencing his successful career in the music industry. Fueled by this personal experience, he now aspires to ignite the same passion in the youth by making technology-driven music education accessible.

Growing Computer Literacy Through Music

Beat Garden is a space for aspiring young artists to cultivate their skills. It provides them with opportunities to explore music production basics, from creating beats to fiddling with Roland instruments such as Roland Cloud, AeroCaster, and AIRA Compact.
