Four-time Grammy-Award Winning artist Gladys Knight will be headlining the Southern Heritage Classic Concert on September 7th, 2022, at 8 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Memphis. Ticket sales for the concert begin on March 24th and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.
The Southern Heritage Classic has been a fan favorite for years and continues to bring beloved artists to perform year after year. Classic Founder Fred Jones expressed his excitement for having Gladys Knight join them again during one of several exciting events leading up to the football game between HBCU’s University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Tennessee State University.
“Gladys Knight never disappoints. She puts on a high-energy show with hits we know and love. This is a big year for the Classic, and it only makes sense to bring one of the best. She’s stood the test of time just like the Classic,” said Jones.
Knight, known as the “Empress of Soul,” is a tireless performer who has wowed audiences around the country and the world. She has recorded more than 38 albums during her career and has some of the most memorable songs of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, including “Every Beat of My Heart,” “Letter Full of Tears,” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” and “If I Were Your Woman.”
Top 10 gold-certified singles like “Neither One of Us (Wants to be the First to Say Goodbye),” “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination,” “Best Thing to Ever Happen to Me,” and the #1 smash “Midnight Train to Georgia” have set the stage for an amazing run in the mid-1970s.
Knight has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including four Grammys, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995, induction into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 with Gladys Knight & The Pips, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2004, she received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from BET, and in 2022, her contributions as an artist and philanthropist were honored at the Kennedy Center Honors.
Fans of Gladys Knight and the Southern Heritage Classic can look forward to an unforgettable performance on September 7 at 8 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, with ticket sales beginning on March 24th through Ticketmaster.com.
